EffectsThe Maestro Phaser, marketed by Gibson, was the first electronic version of this popular effect. Listen to the playing of Eric Gale on Grover Washington’s recording "Mr Magic" to hear this used to great effect. The Maestro Echoplex, again marketed by Gibson, was a very popular delay effects box that found favour on many classic recordings from the 60’s and 70’s.
The Boss CE1 Chorus pedal appeared in the mid-70’s and instantly became popular with musicians around the world because of the way it sounded on Fender Rhodes or on electric guitars. The Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal was one of the best pedals that produced overdriven, distorted sounds that many guitarists love to use to this day.
The Mutron Vol/Wah pedal was favoured by many studio players in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, along with the legendary Mutron Biphase that was part of guitarist Lee Ritenour’s signature sound for many years and even found favour in the reggae studios in Jamaica.
