Drums & Keyboards
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Blair Cunningham started out in the mid-1970's recording for Stax and other 'stateside' record labels - following in the footsteps of his oldest brother, Carl Cunningham (who was Otis Redding's drummer) and his cousin, William Bell, who recorded with The Madlads on Stax back in the day.
After honing his talents in the disco 'infernos' of the 1970's studio scene, Blair recorded various highly acclaimed albums with leading US soul singers including Denise LaSalle's "The Bitch is Back" in 1977 and "Unwrapped" in 1979 and Shirley Brown's "For The Real Feeling" in 1979.
Blair crossed over to mainstream pop music when he joined Haircut 100 in 1979 - crossing the Atlantic at the same time to take up residence in the UK. Since then, Blair has recorded and toured with everyone from Haircut 100 to Echo & The Bunnymen, Van Morrison to the Pretenders, Paul McCartney to Mick Jagger, Bonnie Raitt to Sade, Jesse Winchester to the Gang of Four, Phil Manzanera to John Foxx, Alison Moyet to the Indigo Girls, and on the jazzy side, Kirk Whalum.
